Here, we go through the general themes for Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2010-11, and see the dominance of SOFT HAND fabrics. It’s a trend continuing from the past season and coming even stronger in demand, and includes a large variety of fabrics, from precious mixtures like wool/silk to light washed pure wool and the most unexpected, wool/metal, or hairy surfaces, either pressed or wet finished. It includes coarse and bulky fabrics ranging from knit inspired qualities in new volumes to light gauze, monochromatic frozen effects or sports, rustic magnified pick-and-pick. Another important trend is that for DOUBLE FACE fabrics, gaining ground from season to season, and including the most different face combinations Particularly interesting are double crepe, looser and softer then usual, the combination of woollen/worsted faces and needle bonded items, a very interesting solution to combine completely different fabrics, such as light cotton and wool felt, non-woven and lace, knit and woven, usually in bulky soft renditions, or dull lace and shiny techno bonded effects. A lot of FLANNEL and "FLANNELIZED" fabrics, including old looking basics, unusual wool/linen/nylon mixtures, full hand stretch mixtures, milled and washed crepe. LUSTRE is still a trend element, either when deriving from lustrous fibres or from metallic lustre. So we find sober shine viscose in mixture with wool, golden sparkles in a tweedy fabric, but also the evolution of the Summer "straw" theme, into a plastic looking effect. Creativity being the most important factor, the offer of yarn dyed qualities is increasing, and among them PLAIDS play an essential role. They can be enriched by the unusual effect generated by a special print preserving the design from milling, which is shown here in a light stretch, or by a traditional beaver finish, for the new fancy coat. A light check may be needle bonded to a non-woven, to get a "round" fabric effect, while for the sports style, compact qualities remain among the season's themes. After these general trends, that we find transversal to the various themes, it’s time to start a deeper analysis on the season.

Concerning the general trend for CASUAL WEAR, cotton and wool will play an important role, either pure or blended with natural and artificial fibres, but we cannot speak about a “star” fibre. What matters more is to put different fibres together in multimixtures, to reach various hands and looks. Soft and velvety hands are very much in the mood of the moment but, as counterpoint to cords, brushed, emerized qualities, come the strong cotton/polyamide, the leather imitations, the light crinkle of metal, the subtle lustre of resins. Fabrics are not so heavily textured, not so definitely rigid, sporty style is rather controlled, excess must be avoided and comfort is what matters more. Plaids and tartans stimulate the development of new jeans-items, of woollen cabans and jackets, of new yarn dyed padded garments. Colours range from clean menswear inspired greys and blacks, with a large variety of cotton double faces to the dirty brown/grey hues for the most tough street style, counterbalanced by colourful tweedy qualities and blue tones evolving from the summer season.

The new fashion trend for MENSWEAR is oriented towards a more sports look, gaining importance beside the more formal, classic and elegant style. Qualities have a soft touch and milled, half-milled and flannel fabrics are key this season. In general, “compact”, but soft fabrications will be worth special attention. Mixture and twist yarns will be popular even in pick-and-pick, in high contrast worsteds or in tweed. Design includes bolder patterns up to overchecks and glenchecks.
